The National Register of Citizens or the NRC in Assam was supposed to be a deal. It was meant to figure out who is a citizen of India in the state of Assam. This was a task. It was supposed to help resolve a lot of anxiety about migration, identity and citizenship that had been going on for decades.

When the final list of the National Register of Citizens was published in August 2019 it was a moment. About 1.9 million people were not included in the list.. Even after seven years the National Register of Citizens is still causing a lot of uncertainty in Assam. The National Register of Citizens was supposed to be a way to identify citizens of India in Assam by checking documents from 1971. This was a job. It involved checking the papers of over 33 million people.

Instead of answering the question of who is a citizen the National Register of Citizens has made things more complicated. About 1.9 million people were left out of the list. Just because someone is not on the National Register of Citizens list does not mean they are not a citizen of India. It just means they have to go through legal processes to figure out their status. This is a deal. It has caused a lot of uncertainty for families.

Many people have had to spend years trying to figure out their status. They have had to go to court times. This has caused a lot of anxiety and stress. It has also raised questions about whether the processs fair and accessible to everyone. The National Register of Citizens has also had an impact on communities. It has made many people feel vulnerable. Families where some members are on the list and others are not have been torn apart.

The National Register of Citizens has also changed the way people talk about identity and migration in Assam. At first many people supported the National Register of Citizens. They thought it would help figure out who was a citizen and who was not.. Now many people are criticizing the National Register of Citizens. They say it has not provided any answers. Instead it has just caused uncertainty.

The governments approach to the National Register of Citizens has also been criticized. Of making things clear the government has just added to the confusion. The National Register of Citizens was supposed to be a way to identify immigrants.. Then the government passed the Citizenship Amendment Act, which allows some people from other countries to become citizens of India. This has caused a lot of confusion.

The National Register of Citizens has also had an impact on peoples lives. Some people who are not on the list have had trouble getting bank accounts or jobs. They have also had trouble getting their kids into school. The National Register of Citizens has also put a lot of pressure on the courts and government offices in Assam. They have to deal with millions of cases. This is a burden.

Despite all the problems the National Register of Citizens has not caused chaos in Assam. The government is still functioning. Elections have been held.. The National Register of Citizens has not provided any final answers. It has just caused uncertainty.

The big question now is what to do. Should the government just keep going with the system or should it try to come up with a new plan? What is clear is that something needs to be done. The National Register of Citizens has not provided any closure. It has just caused uncertainty. What is needed is a plan that will provide answers and fairness for everyone.

It is also important to rebuild trust in the community. Citizenship is not about papers. It is about feeling like you belong. When people are unsure about their status it affects their relationship with the government. To fix this the government needs to communicate and provide accessible legal support.

In the end the National Register of Citizens, in Assam is still a chapter. It has provided some data and paperwork. It has not provided any certainty. For people the question of whether they are a citizen or not is still unanswered. Until this question is answered clearly and fairly the National Register of Citizens will remain a project.
